IOSH Singapore Branch is delighted to invite you to join us for an IOSH Networking Night on 4th Sep 2017. We are pleased to have Bev Messinger, Chief Executive to update on IOSH Operation and Strategy and Graham Parker, IOSH President to share how IOSH Influence Globally, followed by two interesting presentations “The development in health and safety law in the UK and potential future application in Singapore” by our guest speaker Ms. Mary Lawrence and “Why Leadership is Important in Maintaining Good Mental Health” by our guest speaker Mr. Tim Briggs.

Bio of MaryLawrence

Mary is a partner at international law firm Osborne Clarke and leads its health and safety practice in the UK. The firm has an office in Singapore. Mary’s work involves advising and defending large corporate businesses and other organisations (both private and public sector) in relation to the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974, associated health and safety regulations, the Corporate Manslaughter and Homicide Act 2007 and other legislation regulated by local authorities, trading standards and the police in the UK. Her team regularly advises international clients investing or operating in the UK about their legal duties and advises in a range of industry sectors (including energy, transport and logistics, real estate and infrastructure and finance). The team also regularly advises international businesses in relation to global health and safety duties and safety systems that can be put in place, working closely with colleagues and other local lawyers. Mary is recognised by the Chambers and Partners and Legal 500 UK legal directories, particularly for her strength in crisis management and client sector knowledge.

Bio of Tim Briggs

Tim is a Chartered Fellow of IOSH and is currently employed by Leeds Beckett University as the Programme Leader for the MSc Occupational Safety and Health the BSc Honours degree in Safety, Health and Environment Management. He has been the lead academic in developing the Franchise Arrangement for MDIS in Singapore. He is a Past President of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health, and has been instrumental in driving forward a scheme of mentoring among the health and safety profession. Currently he is the Chair of the IOSH Professional Standards Committee. His Masters’ Degree in Training and Development has provided the foundations for his research interests and published papers that encompass improving leadership in classrooms and workplaces, as well as developing employee knowledge and skills.  He has a varied range of work experiences including public transport, health, education and defence. He is a graduate of Huddersfield, Nottingham Trent University and Leeds Beckett University. He has been at the front of the No Time To Lose campaign, promoting the IOSH No Time To Lose Campaign delivering the message in France, Gibraltar, Singapore, Bahrain, Abu Dhabi, Germany and the UK to a diverse range of audiences.  His presentation will help give an understanding of how good leadership can help prevent cases of mental ill health.
